Learn by Doing Photography Assignment #14 Silhouette Photography

Last night the kids and I walked to the school to play some basketball, some of their friends were just hanging around on the monkey bars. How can you pass by this photo as the sun was setting, the kids on the monkey bars. I wish I angled just a bit lower or was able to stand on something so their heads had more distance between the shadows… Next time!

I also learned a few things last night as I watched the video I posted below. One of the tips was make sure you can see their profiles, pay attention to the nose she said. Never thought about that, but the best silhouettes usually have a clear defined profile.  Next time I see the sun setting I will be ready!


 This is a really great silhouette tutorial that talks about how you have to put your subject between you and your light source as well as how important the angle you photograph can be. Definitely worth watching –
