Roadtrip. This is the keyword. A memory of one of the most meaningful periods of my life.

I left Italy to spend some time studying in Australia, and there came the idea to rent a small colourful van and travel along New Zealand, Southern Island.

Steps: fly to NZ, two friends and me, pick up a van and leave.
The morning after we landed is when the real road trip began… this landscape of Canterbury Plains is one of the many amazing sceneries that in New Zealand change quicker than a blink of an eye while you drive. But despite many days of sunshine and bright colours, I feel this shot is ‘the one’.
It was us, cold and misty air, one road and a land that somehow rejects and welcomes man at the same time.

We had to stop the car, smell the air and realize how lucky we were: it was there, all for us.

Dedicated to the memory of J.R.R. Tolkien, and many thanks to Peter Jackson who, choosing New Zealand as a set for The Lord of The Rings movies, undirectly persuaded me to travel there.

I shot with a compact Canon Digital IXUS 970 IS..
