Photography 101 - Tips and Editing Techniques

How to edit a low light image with Photoshop CS4

The beginning of this video shows exactly why you should shoot in RAW.

What a difference the white balance makes when changing from Tungsten to  Fluorescent. When I first started using my DSLR I  always had the camera set to Auto WB. I figured the camera could worry about that since I wasn’t exactly sure what it was all about.  Then I started shooting in RAW and seeing for myself during the editing process what a difference your WB choice can make on your image. If you want to get the correct colors in your image you need to make sure your WB is set accordingly.  That is the beauty of shooting a RAW image, you can edit it after the fact!

Be sure to check out some of Photo Gavin’s other photography videos… But first there are some good tips on editing your low light photos in this video. He is using Adobe Camera RAW for processing the image. The basic settings in Lightroom and Adobe Camera RAW are similar, so even if you’re using Lightroom to process your images you should take a moment to watch this video.

All the tips within can be applied to your other photographs as well, it doesn’t have to be a low light photo.
