Learn By Doing – Macro

Assignment #12 – Macro

I am excited to see your pictures! You can post at the bottom of this post or on DigitalCamFan FaceBook wall. If you have questions about “Learn By Doing” Please refer to the guideline page. If you have no questions post away!

Macro photography is close-up photography. So it’s time to get up close and personal this week.  Here is a good question if you are shooting using a 18mm-55mm lens which side would make a better macro shot? Would the wide angle of 18mm or the 55mm side? Below are two pictures I set up to show the difference!

First the 18mm lens:

this next picture is set at 55mm:

Below is a picture of where the camera was set up to get each picture. The picture on the left  is using a focal length of 18mm and the picture on the right has a 55mm focal length. The interesting part I thought was both setup’s look like they are about the same position. I did have to adjust a little bit when I changed the focal length, but for the most part I think they are pretty close!

I only have one tripod so my other camera was precariously placed on top of a book which was on my camera bag that sat on a chair. I tried not to move anything between pictures but it was a bit wobbly thus the pictures aren’t identical from a tripod stance, but you get the picture!
